People Person? Meet The Careers You’ll Love

Whether you’re looking for a fresh start in your career or you have just finished your time in higher education, you might be on the hunt for a career. There are many, many to choose from of course but perhaps there are certain careers that will suit you more than others. This is definitely true if you are a people person. If you love being around people, it’s not a massive leap to say that you would love working with them. The good news is that there are plenty of careers where you can work with individuals, groups and constantly be surrounded by people.

If you have spent time in a typical office, you might think that every job requires you to be sociable. But don’t be so sure. A delivery driver may seem like a social job, but it’s really a quick hello, and you’ll be on the road again. You’ll spend most of your time alone. This is true for many office jobs, emotionally at least. You might be surrounded by people in the office but you will hardly ever interact with them, and as such for certain individuals it won’t be a particularly fulfilling career. So, what will? Well, we’re glad you asked because there are a number of career possibilities that fit the bill here.

We know that some of these won’t be accessible to everyone and that’s why we’ve collected a few careers where you do need degrees, where you don’t and where anyone with the right attitude could easily get hired.

Teacher Or Teaching Assistant

If you like working with children specifically, you might want to think about becoming a teacher or a teaching assistant. One requires you get a degree and the other doesn’t. If you want to become a teacher, you’ll be pleased to know that you might only be a year away from accomplishing this goal. These days, you can become a teacher if you have a qualification in anything. After that, you can complete a one-year degree to get up to speed with teaching, most of which will be spent as an active role in the classroom.

So, who will this job suit? Well, aside from being great with kids you’re going to need a lot of patience. Not all kids learn at the same level, and some will struggle. You’re going to need to be able to help all the kids in the class, not just the top performers. As well as this, you need to be strict while likeable. The best teachers know how to operate on the same level of the kids who they are teaching while maintaining their authority.

The benefits of a job like this is that you get fantastic holidays and you’ll be completing a job where you can make a difference, helping kids grow and learn what they need to achieve later in life.

A teaching assistant position may be acquired without a degree. While they are typically paid less, a teaching assistant does get the benefit of working with one or two children rather than several. As such, they tend to make a personal connection where they can really see the benefit they are bringing to a child’s life.

People often falsely believe that this job means low pay, but that’s not always the case. Some companies offer a set rate for time spent calling, but others do something quite different. Rather than being paid based on your time, you are paid based entirely on your skill. So, your salary will increase if you are a fantastic salesperson. You don’t need a degree to complete this job at all, and if you do work on commission, you can make a fortune. If you are poor at getting a sale, on the other hand, you’ll probably be stuck on minimum wage, so it definitely depends on your level of skill.

You might think that this isn’t really a position for people who love working with others, but actually, it is. Some people love communicating with others on a regular basis but struggle when they have to make eye contact or adopt the right body language. Confidence can also be an issue and if this sounds like you a job where you simply speak to an individual on the phone could be the perfect option.

That said, you do have to be prepared for and be able to deal with rejection. You’ll get a lot of people who hang up as soon as you start speaking, are blatantly rude or just screen the call completely. This can be frustrating, but if you continue to persevere, you will find plenty of people who are eager to buy whatever you’re selling. It’s all about having the patience and making the commitment to find that sale.

Of course, if you are able to do this job in person, you can. There are plenty of sales that could be perfect if you have a way with people. You just need to be persuasive, somewhat charismatic and able to deal with difficult customers.

Do you need a degree for this job? A qualification in marketing might help, but it’s certainly not essential. It’s far more important that you have the right personality and essentially the charisma to make people want to buy.

Of course, if you want to work one on one with one person or just a few people or spend most of your time helping an individual rather than a group, you might want to think about becoming a counselor. Counselors still need to be good with people because their main role is to help them by being someone who they can confide in and trust.

You do need a qualification to become a counselor, but it’s not as hard to gain one as you might think. If you check out a list of online graduate counseling programs, you’ll see that there are various options for those individuals who are interested in the possibility of getting a counseling degree. You can even complete these in your spare time, so they don’t have to become something that takes over your entire life which is a great news. The other thing to realize is that you can still get a solid degree that will, without a doubt, lead you to a high paying job. Yes, counselors are paid well above the minimum wage, and it’s a job that is in high demand right now. It’s also something that you can work as privately rather than being one cog in a much larger business machine.

If you want to become a counselor, you do need an understanding of psychology and human behavior. But you’ll learn that on the course, and you will gain the knowledge you need to help people when they feel lost and are looking for a hand to guide them. This is exactly what you will be there to provide, and it can be a role that is incredibly rewarding on a personal level.

As you can see then, there are a number of careers that are absolutely perfect for you if you see yourself as a true people’s person. This is true whether you are hoping for a job talking to a bunch of people through the day or on a one to one basis. You can work with adults or children. And, you don’t even need a career to gain this type of position. A lot of jobs do require regular communication with other people, particularly in the customer service industry. But these jobs, provide more than that. It gives you the opportunity to work with others on a very personal prominent level.
