So You Want To Take Up Cycling?

My knowledge of cycling can pretty much be summed up into two words: Lance Armstrong. Besides the fact that I knew cycling was a sport done on bicycles, I know nothing else about it. One of my friends who decided to take up cycling has convinced me enough to give it a try. If you want to join us in tackling this new sport, here’s what you need if you want to start taking up cycling.

Buying a bike

Obviously the most important thing you need in this sport, you have to buy your very own bike. There are plenty of available options so it would really depend on how much you’re willing to spend. If a brand new bike is too steep for you, there are even second-hand bikes available.

After asking around for good starter bike suggestions, I was able to minimize my options down to three. You can start cycling with a hybrid bike, single speed bike or a folding bike. More than the budget, consider what you need and want to attain in this sport. Examples of kinds of cycling that you could be doing are hybrid, dutch, road, single speed/fixed, mountain, folding, electric. It can be quite overwhelming so it’s very important to do your research before buying your bike!Buying cycle gear

As with any sport, safety is a great priority. Make sure that you get your basic cycling gear along with your new bike! There’s a wide array of Cycle Helmets to choose from, along with jackets, pads, locks and other gear that would come in handy.Take on the road solo or join cycling groups

You can always dive into the sport head first and figure out how to improve on your own. If you want support and some people to teach you, however, you can always join cycling groups. Personally, I think finding a group is a great option for beginners as you get to find others who can teach you more about cycling.

Being active is important in every aspiring gentleman’s life and no matter what sport you choose to dabble in, don’t forget the main thing you must always remember: just go out there and have fun.
