Back when God was busy punishing the Israelites, a cheeky chap named Samson was strutting around the cities of Philistines, making other men green with envy due to his supernatural strength and various heroic feats …
… not to mention his outstanding head of hair.
As the story goes, God bestowed this brilliant barnet upon Samson, like some kind of biblical barber, allowing him to rip lions apart with his bare hands or slay an entire army equipped only with the jawbone of a donkey.
But without his luscious locks he was powerless.
Similarly, for us modern men, losing our hair can make us feel as toothless as a bald Samson, with many mornings spent in front of the mirror praying to the big guy upstairs to work his magic and help us avoid a bonce that’d make Telly Savalas wince.
Before it gets to the divine intervention stage for you, however, we’ve put together some easy ways to boost your thinning mane and help make sure any bloodthirsty lions or murderous armies are swiftly put in their place …
Choose a Natural Shampoo
If you’ve always washed your hair with those run-of-the-mill shampoos, it may surprise you to learn that they’re probably doing more harm than good. This is due to the number of damaging chemicals they contain, which can make your hair dry and unmanageable.
As a result, grab a natural shampoo that’s free from harmful chemical substances (sodium chloride, sodium sulphates or ammonium sulphates, for instance) and will strengthen from the roots, giving you a head of hair that Samson himself would be proud of.
Give Up the Cigarettes
Admit it, you only took up smoking as a teenager in a bid to look cool and avoid a ribbing from your mates. However, aside from adversely affecting your health, this habit could be triggering hair loss, as it increases the associated hormone levels.
This is according to a study carried out by Harvard School of Public Health in America, with the research also revealing that puffing on a ciggy constricts the tiny blood vessels supplying the scalp, subsequently starving your hair of the nutrients it needs to grow.
Style Your Pelt Properly
Depending on the thickness – or not – of your hair, it’s important to use the appropriate styling product to make sure you don’t look like Donald Trump after 10 minutes in a tumble dryer. For instance, heavy waxes and gels on thinning hair is a bad idea, making your barnet look overly flat.
While Samson had God on his side, us mere mortals, according to the experts, should try using a mousse to give our hair volume, as well as a variety of enhancing sprays, all designed to give the locks a lift straight from the roots.
