My pair of Gambino Alliance Derby shoes waited for me on the doorstep of an AirBNB in Pittsburgh en route to wear during the 2017 carnival Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Just in time to escape the frigid east coast winter to walk, dance, and drink my way around the the beautiful Brazilian summer weather.
Just as advertised, opening the box and lacing up my pair of Gambino Alliance Derby shoes the scent of a high-end, Italian-made leather shoes filled the air for a few moments. I can picture these light grey Gambino Alliance Derby shoes with the handful of custom made linen shirts I had stitched in Colombia ready for the sambadromes, parades, and top after parties in Rio.
“When launching Gambino Alliance, I set out to create a shoe line that would set itself apart naturally,” says founder Miguel Lozano. “Each shoe is made of the highest quality materials available, and due to their hand-made construction, you can expect each pair to have its own unique flair, and endure daily wear and tear that mass-produced shoes would not.”
I opted for the Gambino Alliance Derby shoe as it matched my summer weather plans but if I were staying on the east coast I would surely have chosen the Gambino Alliance hi-top Chelsea boot. Both shoes differ from most on the market with its high-quality, waterproof materials and select color options for the Aspiring Gentleman.
Based in Miami, the Gambino Alliance concept was imagined by founder Miguel Lozano to bring high-quality shoes to gentleman at an affordable price point. Gambino Alliance launched on crowdfunding platform Kickstarter in February 2017 for 40 days total. Lozano has built an exclusive shoe brand that you won’t find in stores upon its release. Instead, Lozano has opted to launch Gambino Alliance on Kickstarter directly to potential supporters who will be given the opportunity to back Gambino Alliance through the purchase of a pair of shoes, the purchase of a care kit, or a monetary donation.
