We love hoodies during winter. Easy to throw on and infinitely warm and comfortable, they’re a staple piece in any man’s wardrobe at this time of year. Keeping the look fresh and on trend can be difficult though, as the temptation is often to style an old favourite with a pair of jeans and trainers and be done with it. In truth, the hoodie is an incredibly versatile piece that can be dressed up or down depending on the occasion – it’s all just in the styling.
We’ve put together three looks that incorporate the classic hoodie and are perfect for events that you might usually deem this wardrobe staple a little too casual for. Styled correctly, and this steadfast essential could become your go-to for work, a hot date or even the office Christmas party.
The hoodie
We’ve chosen a burgundy hoodie from Tu, complete with a ribbed hem and contrasting white ties. The style is incredibly simple, yet the oxblood colour is sure to add a pop of something special to any outfit and is the perfect tone for A/W.
Look 1: Workwear
The trick to making a hoodie workwear ready is to keep the rest of the outfit overtly smart. Everything from the jacket to the shoes should be dressed up in order to keep a balance and prevent the final look being too slouchy for the workplace. A pair of stylish suit trousers create the perfect contrast and are always a welcome addition to any workwear wardrobe.
For the shoes, opt for classic black and team with a warm pair of plain black socks. We’ve added a simple overcoat to finish the look off and keep everything winter-appropriate.
Look 2: Evening date
While chinos are largely considered a summer piece, there’s no reason they can’t work just as well in winter too. Team a hoodie with a pair of smart and stylish black chinos, featuring a slim leg to dress the outfit up a little.
For the shoes, it’s all about making a good first impression in something that is stylish yet effortlessly cool. Switch the well-worn white trainers with a pair of black leather lace ups, complete with a contrasting white sole that works to bring the whole outfit together.
Look 3: Christmas party
Here we’ve gone for black straight leg jeans, teamed with a classic black Chelsea boot. These ones feature striking white detailing that prevent the look from becoming too predictable. It’s an outfit that’s deceptively smart and is certain to carry you through from pre-drinks at the local bar to dancing the night away.
