Much to the dismay of the single, the winter season, with its holiday parties and chilly temps, seem to have been made for the lovebirds. Here are a few winter date ideas that’ll thrill your sweetheart and keep the romantic fires burning all season long.
Set Up an 80’s Christmas Movie Marathon
If you know your darling loves a good movie night, then they’ll adore an evening filled with all the 80’s Christmas movie classics. Queue up a list of both your favorites, or if you need some inspiration, think about adding National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation, Home Alone, A Christmas Story and Scrooged. A quiet night at home may seem simple, but there’s nothing more romantic than sharing a laugh and a bowl of popcorn. Order in dinner with GrubHub and make it a cozy evening to remember.
Plan a Holiday Ice Skating Outing
An ice skating date is a holiday must. There’s something old school and dreamy about bundling up in some cozy clothes, lacing up a pair skates and whipping around a rink with a crisp chill in the air. If you can’t impress your date with impeccable skating moves, you can make up for it by packing along a thermos of eggnog and some sweet treats for a mid-skate break while you enjoy watching the other skaters or cuddling under the Christmas lights.
Get Out of Town for a Cozy Cabin Getaway
Surprise your better half with a weekend cabin getaway for just the two of you. The holiday season is filled with parties, family gatherings and a whole flurry of other festive activities, so it’s nice to steal away for a bit one-on-one time when you can. Put together a romantic, Christmas-themed weekend bag and fill it with gingerbread cookies, good cheeses, crackers and some warming, winter beverages, such as hot cocoa, cider, and of course, a bottle of wine or two. Hopefully it’s chilly enough so the two of you can make a cup of cocoa and snuggle up next to the fire in a Tipsy Elves Christmas onesie.
Take a Cooking Class Together
Whether you’re already a competent cook or a microwave meal professional, taking a cooking class with your loved one is a great way to spend quality time together while also learning how to cook a new dish. Often, these classes are held by knowledgeable culinary experts who provide students with a unique opportunity to learn about a variety of techniques, ingredients, and even how to bring out certain flavors with the right wine pairing. This is a great opportunity to learn something new together and it’s a creative diversion from the usual, “dinner out.” Take a look at the offerings in your area to see what’s available.
Holiday Drive-In-Movie
You two may frequent the movie theater on fairly regular occasion, but when was the last time you went to the drive-in? Take a look at the schedule for the drive-in closest to you to see what holiday features they have planned. Often, for the price of one ticket you’ll get a two-show viewing. Make sure to bring your comfiest blankets and pillows so you can cuddle up, and put together a special goody bag with all their favorite candies and snacks, and don’t forget a thermos of apple cider or cocoa.
Plan
Does your city have a neighborhood that notoriously has the best holiday lights? What about a spot in town that puts on an annual ice sculpting contest, or a dive bar that does Christmas karaoke? Is there a district that puts on a killer holiday parade? Do a bit of research and try to collect between five and 10 unusual or special holiday events that are unique to your city or town. Put them all together to create a special holiday guide. You can knock ‘em all out in one day, or if certain activities happen on different dates, go the extra mile and make an official, printed out plan with your personalized itinerary and the dates you’ll be attending together.
