  1. Bávaro

A scenic beach resort in Punta Cana, featuring a long wide beach edged with coral reef, a dream for divers and snorkelers. If you don’t fancy a swim, there’s plenty of golfing resorts nearby (of which you’re never far from in the Dominican Republic).

The Palma Real Shopping Village complex just outside holds market stalls of local vendors selling traditional arts and crafts pieces, perfect for souvenirs.

The resort houses a selection of hotels, including:

  • The Now Larimar Hotel, which has a gorgeous curved main pool and an entrance adorned with water features. Larimar Punta Cana boasts six restaurants and even more bars, serving a wide variety of dishes from all over the world.
  • Two Meliá Hotels, part of the successful Spanish hotel chain – these are called Paradisus Palma Real and the Meliá Caribe Tropical. They are all-inclusive beach and golf resorts – Bávaro is where to go if you want a sunny sporting holiday! The hotels capture the essence of the Caribbean with tropical gardens throughout and a beachfront location, as well as hosting luxury dining and stunning pool facilities.
  1. Barceló Bávaro Beach

The area’s oldest hotel, the complex is comprised of an astounding 732 rooms, all equipped with AC and offering the guest all-inclusive access to its bars, spas and restaurants.

Be aware: this hotel is adults only! If you’re after a relaxing pool-and-beach holiday away from the children, this hotel would be the one for you.

They offer sports classes, a disco, and nightly entertainment, all with tropical sea views – definitely one of our top choices.

  1. Occidental Caribe

Also in Punta Cana, this luxurious hotel resort sits on the edge of crystal clear Caribbean water, and boasts rooms with balconies overlooking the ocean for breathtaking sunset views.

The main building looks palatial, and within it you’ll find spas, restaurants, tennis courts and mini golf courses. The hotel is a couple of miles from the Manati Amusement Park, making this a perfect choice for family fun.

  1. Altos de Caño Hondo

This highly-rated eco-friendly hotel is located in Los Haitises, with room views of the Bahia de Samana Bay. It’s situated in a rainforest paradise, surrounded by waterfalls, natural pools and tropical gardens to its guests.

All rooms are nestled amongst the trees. It’s a smaller, more relaxing setting than the large tourist resort hotels – an excellent choice if you’d prefer a tropical getaway rather than a bustling poolside experience.

Altos de Caño Hondo features a tourist desk to advise you of nearby activities, but you can enjoy hiking, cycling and horse-riding on-site. This hotel has the added benefit of being near the Los Haitises National Park, home to a subtropical humid forest, tropical wildlife and a stunning limestone hill landscape.

This is a lovely choice for a couples retreat or an authentic Caribbean family holiday.

  1. Hostal Silvestre

This luxurious city hostel on the La Romana coast is the perfect low-cost choice for young travelers or people looking for a beachside city trip. It offers an on-site restaurant, pool, social areas and modest but stylish individual rooms decked out in tropical red and orange color schemes.

Other benefits include convenient on-site car hire for you to get around the whole island with ease, and its proximity to Catalina Island, a secluded beach paradise just a short boat ride away.
