Whiskey Review of Proper No. Twelve’s Triple Distilled Irish Whiskey and Laphroaig Ian Hunter 30 year

Over this past New Year’s celebration, I had the pleasure of sampling two new whiskeys, what better way to bring in the New Year than to try something new. The two whiskeys I sampled were very different and provided some unique characteristics and flavors, both of which satisfied my taste buds. These Whiskeys come from Ireland and Scotland, respectively. The Irish Whiskey being a younger sweeter blend and the other aged in American white oak barrels for 30 years and has a very distinctive smoky flavor. Whiskey is a distilled alcoholic beverage made from various grains, including barley, corn, rye, and wheat. Whiskey is typically aged in wooden casks and is generally made of charred white oak. Because the ingredients and aging method can vary so much, it is necessary to sample many different whiskeys to find the flavors you prefer. What can be more fun! Try your own Whiskey review trying various Whiskeys to see what you enjoy most; the more you sample, the more you will know what kinds of Whiskey you enjoy, or what kind will match your meal or mood at the time.

The first sample was the Proper No. Twelve’s Triple Distilled Irish Whiskey, which is an ultra-smooth blend of golden grain and single malt with hints of vanilla, honey, and toasted wood for a rich complexity. I typically drink an American bourbon, but tonight being New Year’s, I was trying something new and why not. Although I usually drink an American Whiskey, the sweet flavors had me in love with this Whiskey. For those who love UFC, Proper No. Twelve was founded by Conor McGregor, who created a unique and special blend of Irish Whiskey with the perfect sweetness and hints of vanilla. After sipping on Proper No. Twelve I knew I would really enjoy it in an old fashion. I found their drink receipt on their website and made the perfect Old Fashion. I also did notice the receipt for a Proper Pickleback, I have done shots of vodka with a Pickleback but never thought of doing one with Irish Whiskey, I can’t wait to go out the get another bottle of Proper Twelve and a jar of pickles.

Laphroaig Ian Hunter 30 year

The second Whiskey of the night is a very different blend, The Laphroaig Ian Hunter 30 year is sweet and medicinal with manuka honey, light peat smoke, cooked apple, and rosemary vanilla. It contains Orgeat syrup and a hint of lemon peel to complete the aroma. The Laphroaig Ian Hunter 30 year is a full-body Whiskey with a light peat finish; there was only one way to enjoy it, neat. This is truly an amazing whiskey. I was a little worried about the smoky flavor, but they have given this just the right amount for a perfect sipping Whiskey. The smooth start on the tongue with a little sweetness and light smoky finish was a perfect match. Laphroaig comes from an island called Isle of Islay “broad hollow by the bay,” a small Island off of Scotland. For over 200 years, Laphroaig has been distilling the perfect blend for the Scotch and Whisky drinkers. I can’t wait to make my way to Scotland to take a tour.
