Do you dream of seeing as much of the world as possible? If the answer is yes, you’re not alone. Many of us dream of being able to quit jobs and head off to see the world. There’s only one problem, for very few of us, that dream becomes a reality. When it comes to jetting off and seeing the world, far too often, life just gets in the way. However, it doesn’t have to, if you want to see the world badly enough, you can do.
Stuck for inspiration about how to go about it? Here’s what you need to do!
You might already have some savings for your trip, if so, that’s great. However, if you don’t, then you’ll need to get saving. Even if you plan on working while you travel – something we’ll discuss in more detail later on, you still need funds to get you started. So it’s essential to start saving – aim to do this at least six months before your trip so that you can save a good amount. It might be worth working out how much you’ll need to live on so that you can get an idea of the amount that you need to save.
Decide how you’ll do it
The next step is to take the time to consider how you will get around the world. You could opt to do the normal – aka flying from place to place, or you may dream of doing something more unique. Perhaps you’ve always wanted to sail around the world? If for example, this is the case, it might be worth looking into how much a suitable boat would cost to buy. Of course, there’s not just the cost of the boat itself, but also any changes that need making. It’s also wise to have a boat service plan in place to ensure that your boat is in tip, top condition, before heading off around the world. Ask yourself, can you afford this? If sailing isn’t your thing, how about investing in an RV and driving from place to place? Or, could a motorcycle be the best option? You need to do what’s best for you.
Map out a route
Obviously, it’s essential that before you head off to see the world, that you plan a route. Whether you’re sailing, flying, or driving, it’s crucial that you have a plan in place. This should state where you’re going when and should include all the information that you need about crossing each border. The last thing you want is to be denied entry to a certain country simply because you don’t have the right documentation. That’s why it’s so important to do adequate research into each and every country that you plan on visiting.
Quit your job
The last step in your journey to getting out there and exploring the world is quitting your job. This can often be the hardest step, especially if you’ve worked hard to get to a good place in your career. The best thing that you can do is leave on good terms, so that if and when you return home, you may be able to reprise your old role. Another thing that’s worth considering is working on a freelance basis while you’re abroad. Or, taking part in different projects in each place you visit. Just think how fantastic having jobs in various countries would look on your CV.
Lots of people dream of getting out there and seeing the world but sadly never do it. Don’t be a dreamer who doesn’t achieve their goals, get out there and do what you’ve always wanted to – see the world.
