A trip to London has always been in the back of my mind. I have heard incredible stories about what a funtastic weekend in London someone else has had and they made the trip seem exciting, to say the least. In fact, the tales were so interesting, I fear not wanting to come back to the states. Nonetheless, the time has come that I step up to the plate, I am taking the risk. As suggested, I’m going to go to these places and when I return, I’ll have moments to share with those heartless individuals.
With airfare and hotel accommodations being the most expensive, vacationing in London can be a costly experience. Nonetheless, I’ve decided to ball on a budget of about $5000.00 for the weekend. I’ve planned the trip way in advance for the spring and with my business associations, my ticket (coach) was a little less than a grand. The hotel I picked is called the London City Suites, which is another chunk out of the budget, however, it’s well worth the dollar spent.
The Montcalm London City provides an atmosphere that is polished and I like that plus, just outside its doors are plenty of entertaining sites to see. The luxury suites are individually designed and accessorized with contemporary world class amenities such as internet access (just so you can post a blow by blow picture of your funtastic weekend).
Additionally, London City Suites sets the room up nicely with a complimentary bottle of champagne, fruit and mineral water to welcome you and provides access to The Montcalm at The Brewery London City and fitness room. The part I like is the butler service. Oh, and this one other thing… the pillow menu. They have one made especially for men. The memory foam pillow is goose down – inside and outside, which makes for a peaceful night’s slumber.
Everyone raves about the Humble Grape. It’s a wine bar that serves delicious foods, which surprisingly, isn’t that pricey. The meals generally range from $10 to $25. If you eat at one of the more established restaurants, you may pay around $200 for the evening meal.
On the other hand, there’s the Borough Market for fresh foods. The people are what makes this food market special, however, you can’t match the quality of the food here. It’s like letting a kid run loose in the ice cream parlor.
Relatively new is the Shake, Rattle and Stir. There specialty is gin tours. If you love gin, this is the place to be!
Since we’re men, we like to play manly games. clueQuest features this organized game in that you and your teammates attempt to plot your own escape in 60 minutes or less. There are no weapons, just practical knowledge and teamwork is needed to unlock the door. You’ll solve common sense riddles and puzzles.
Angel Comedy Club is a free spot that let’s you stretch your dollar and your cheek or jaw bones. They are open every night of the week, starring some of the world’s seasoned comedians.
The most eventful and the most invigorating ride of your funtastic weekend will take place on the Thames river. Seeing the tourist attractions like Big Ben, Buckingham Palace and Windsor Castle on one of the fastest speedboats is the only way to do it. London RIB Voyages is open no matter the weather.
If you like cycling, take the BreakAway Bike Tour and see more of the city. How about a game of golf at the Alexandra Palace? Alexandra Palace encompasses 196 lavish acres of green land. Does the theater or the museum interest you? The Covent Garden is a minefield of entertainment – restaurants, bars, boutiques and home to the Royal Opera House. There’s plenty to do and to tell you the truth, I may need more than a funtastic weekend in London.
