If you’ve been following this blog for a while, you know that I’m really into Mad Men, AMC’s period drama, currently in its third season.  Besides lots of whisky, smoking, and general debauchery, the show also showcases some amazing styles both for men and women.  The stylings of Joan Holloway, one of the show’s female characters, have arguably created a new retro-revolution in female style.  For guys, however, things are a little more simple.  The style on the show is very classic – primarily just lots of great-fitting suits.  Brooks Brothers has picked up on the success of the show by collaborating with costume director Janie Bryant to create a limited run of 250 Mad Men-inspired suits.  Sure to be incredibly well-fitted, these suits are still (somewhat) reasonably priced at under $1000.  If you want a great-fitting suit for less than that, though, you merely need to make an effort to ensure any suit fits decently off the rack (particularly on your shoulders) and ALWAYS use a tailor.  I say, however, that if you really want to look like you’re in the 60s, you’re going to get a lot more authentic by visiting your local thrift store.  I’m hoping to write a bit more about style in the future, so stay tuned.
