Many entrepreneurs live with their mobile phones in hand. There’s always someone to call or someone calling you. Sometimes you need to be able to act fast – for instance, to secure a deal or to contact an external partner. So that’s why it’s handy to have the important people in your life and organization on your speed dial function on your phone. But there are a few more people you better have on speed dial… just in case. This article tells you about the people you might not need every day, but it’s a good idea to have their phone numbers saved!
1. A decent lawyer
You never know when you get some legal issues… for instance, a client decides to sue. Hopefully, this never happens, but many companies have to use a lawyer’s services sooner or later. Choosing a lawyer last-minute when something happens can be hard and stressful. That’s why it’s good to ask around and get some lawyers’ names before something happens. You can, for instance, work with a freelance lawyer or choose a basic contract with a lawyer. They can make sure your employment contracts are airtight and be ready to help you if something happens.
2. A debt collection agency
Just like you never know when you might need a lawyer, you never know when you need a debt collection agency (Dutch: incassobureau). Unfortunately, debtors that don’t pay their bills are something every entrepreneur deals with. And if this happens, it’s important that you can act fast. You obviously want the money you’re owed – and quick! But it’s also important to know that there’s an order people get paid out when a company goes bankrupt. And you want to be first in line!
Hiring a debt collection agency (Dutch: incassobureau inschakelen) can make you get your money back fast. They have ways to track down a company owner that you don’t have and have years of experience retrieving money for companies. There are some sketchy collection agencies, so it’s important to stay clear of those. That’s why it’s recommended that you do your research before you need their services. Check out their TrustAdvisor reviews or ask fellow entrepreneurs if they recommend an agency. Save the name of the debt collection agency and their phone number – you never know when you might need it!
3. A press manager
PR is great. At least it is when everything is going swimmingly. Popping up online or in a magazine or newspaper with your name when it’s complimentary news is something every entrepreneur wants. Unfortunately, it’s also possible your name makes it into the news for less complimentary reasons. And then it might be handy to be able to call your press manager, whether it’s day or night, to issue a statement or write a press release. Keeping a professional like that on payroll can be a little pricey, but believe us: it’s worth it when they can clear your name.
