The two most prominent and popular drone types are the DJI Phantom 3 and the 3D Robotics Solo – and choosing between them can be harder than you think. Here are a few basic attributes and important things to remember for both models:

DJI Phantom 3 has a new 4K camera, HD video streaming capabilities from a mile away, and a larger array of sensors. This makes the DJI Phantom 3 an excellent choice for anyone looking for quality video equipment. The pricing for this model includes the gimbal and camera for around $1,300. The quality of video you can take with this model is definitely impressive, and is largely considered to be of higher quality than the 3DR Solo. The flight range of the DJI Phantom is about one mile.

3DR Solo has two 1GHz processors to accommodate Linux, HD video streaming, pre-programmed path flights, and full GoPro capabilities. The pricing for the 3DR Solo is $1,000 for the drone, and then you choose your gimbal and camera options from there. To create a drone comparable to the DJI Phantom, it would cost you around $1,900 – however, with flexible pricing options, you don’t need to spend as much. The 3DR Solo uses a GoPro Hero 4, which generates extremely clear video images, although the gimbal used with this model is said to create shakier footage. The 3DR Solo has a flight range of about a half a mile, compared to the DJI Phantom’s mile range.

Overall, when considering the most basic details of each model, it would appear the DJI Phantom 3 is the better bang for your buck. With the price including the gimbal and camera, the full mile flight range, and the high quality video, you simply get more features for less money over the 3DR Solo.

The 3DR Solo & Phantom 3 are both currently only available as a pre-order. The 3DR Solo has a limited amount or pre-sell retailers, 3DR limited the amount of retailer to only the best. There are only about 5 US companies that have the Solo for pre-sale and DroneFly.com is one of them.  The DJI Phantom 3 is a little more available compared to the Solo. The Phantom 3 can be found so easily online for pre-order and in hobby stores around the nation. Most store that carry the Phantom drones will be carrying the drone as well.

Based on my experience, DroneFly is one of the top online drone companies, offering new drones and competitive prices.  I also found that DroneFly has a great selection of drone accessories for all of the drones they carry — everything from top of the line drone models to entry and beginner models. I like that DroneFly also offers financing for all of their high-end models which can be pricey depending on your needs. DroneFly.com is the right place for all your drone needs to purchase a drone and for pre-order of both the DJI Phantom 3 and the 3D Robotics Solo.
