Tennis is not exactly an underrated sport or anything like that, but still maybe many people don’t realize just how exciting a great tennis match is to watch. The tension and the constant potential for reversals and close games that go right down to the wire are huge in this sport, and this is why it is a favorite for many and maybe would be for many more who were aware of this.
This factor can be heightened even more by a little friendly betting, or even more serious and potentially more lucrative online betting on tennis matches. There is just no match for that visceral thrill, and the knowledge that you have money riding on the outcome of one of these awesome matches can really multiply the thrill factor impressively.
Let’s look at some of the favorites for this year:
On the men’s side, Andy Murray is a clear favorite with the biggest betting sites, giving odds from 5/2 to 2/1, respectively. He is followed by Novak Djokovic (5/2 to 3 depending on the site), and Roger Federer (generally rated at 3/1 by the knowledgeable). These are the three heavy favorites for this year. Trailing them are quite a few dark horses, players like Milos Raonic, Rafael Nadal, Nick Kyrgios, and Juan Martin del Potro.
On the women’s side, things are quite a bit murkier, with not so many clear favorites. The one most people in the know are picking as their favorite is the illustrious Angelique Kerber, who is generally given 11/2 or similar on most of the big sites. Karolina Pliskova and Marina Sharapova are practically in a statistical dead heat, with odds ranging typically from 7/1 to 8/1 to win.
Behind them trail Johanna Konta who gets anywhere from 8/1 to 10/1, depending on the source, and then the parade of dark horses start. The women’s series is really almost anybody’s game. Madison Keys, Petra Kvitova, Coco Vandewhege, Venus Williams, and Simona Halep are all still strong contenders. This series really could be anybody’s with the right set of circumstances and outcomes.
Honestly, if you want a free for all, stay with the women’s side. If you want more of a sure thing, or you want to shoot the moon on a big potential upset, go for the men’s side. But either way, Wimbledon will deliver as it always does, with plenty of suspense and excitement to go around.
