Strongest QB’s of 2020 NFL Season

American football is known for its toughness and high-octane action. Regardless of how often a sports fan has tuned in to catch an NFL game, they likely know of at least one position: the quarterback especially the QB’s of 2020.

Quarterbacks lead each play for the offensive team, organizing the action. The NFL’s top quarterbacks are key to any team’s success regardless of their opponent, but as the NFL advances toward post-season play, each slip-up could cost a team a spot in the playoffs. 

At the moment, sportsbooks offering NFL betting odds and experts providing playoff picks are zeroing in on three quarterbacks: Patrick Mahomes, Aaron Rodgers, and Joe Burrow. Until Week 15 stats were in, Mahomes led the league, but Rodgers and the Packers now have an edge heading into playoffs.

Let’s take a look at this season’s standout quarterbacks as the league heads to playoffs while you sit in your man cave and enjoy the games. 

Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers

Having clinched a playoff position, the Packers are slated to push into playoffs as a favorite to win a Lombardi Trophy. Without resident QB star Aaron Rodgers, this push wouldn’t be possible. As one of the most seasoned stars in the league with sixteen years under his belt, his 2020 stats may be enough to earn him another MVP award.

For the 2020 season, according to the Packer’s website, he’s thrown 40 touchdowns and passed for 3,828 yards with only four interceptions. Rodgers also ranks first in the NFL in career passer rating and interception percentage.

In Week 13, Rodgers threw three touchdowns against the Philadelphia Eagles. The third touchdown marked his 400th career TD. For this feat, he was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. This came only one week after Rodgers became the 11th player in NFL history to throw for more than 50,000 career yards. 

The Packers will rely on Rodgers’ vision to avoid interceptions as they cruise into the playoffs leading the NFC. So far, he’s brought home one Super Bowl title for the Packers but will be hungry for a second before he retires. 

Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs

Though he’s appeared in the first position in the NFL’s week-by-week quarterback rankings, Patrick Mahomes recently slipped into the second position behind Rodgers’. Mahomes in teh hunt to be one of the best QB’s of 2020.  He came into the 2020 season in his fourth year with high expectations following his blowout performance in Super Bowl LIV, which brought the Chiefs a much-needed Lombardi Trophy late in the fourth quarter.

Though behind Rodgers, Mahomes has continued to deliver for Kansas City. This season, he’s played in thirteen games to pass a total of 4,208 yards, with 33 touchdowns and only five interceptions.

Given the record-breaking contract Mahomes signed with the Chiefs, he’ll face ample pressure as the Chiefs begin their playoff run. So far, he’s managed to keep hold of his reputation for fourth-quarter comebacks after a Week 2 match against the LA Chargers. Mahomes led a double-digit comeback (9-17) for a final score of 23-20.

This feat, the sixth of Mahomes’ career, broke NFL records. However, the Chiefs’ roster is deep, which means their quarterback won’t stand alone as they look to take the AFC in playoffs. 

Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals

Joe Burrow is now on injured reserve with the Bengals following a Week 11 faceoff against the Washington Football Team, during which he tore his MCL and ACL. However, before his injury, Burrow was busy breaking NFL records. 

In his second game against the Cleveland Browns, Burrow broke the NFL record for most completions by a rookie in a single game with 37 passes for 316 yards and three touchdowns. In the Bengals’ Week 4 showdown against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Burrow set an NFL record for becoming the first rookie quarterback to throw for more than 300 yards in three straight games.

Burrow didn’t stop there. In a Week 7 rematch against the Browns, he became the first rookie in the NFL to pass for 400 yards, rush a touchdown, and three passing touchdowns in a single game. Though Burrow won’t make any more appearances until next season, he’ll be a highly-watched quarterback for years to come.
