A Comprehensive Guide to Understand Beard Growth Stages

Beard Growth Stages

There are some distinct beard growth stages you should know about and fully understand. You have to respond to the different beard growth stages with well planned strategies, mostly pertaining to grooming and taking care of your facial hair. It is true that men do not have the same kind of hair growth. It is not just the texture of your facial hair, the shape or form, the rate of growth or other factors that are affected by genetics, hormones and age. The nature of grooming, trimming and other preventive as well as curative measures you must take will also depend on the uniqueness of your beard and moustache.

The First Week of Beard Growth

You may begin with a clean shave or a trimmed beard. Both options are practical and you may choose entirely on the basis of your personal preference or what you may find convenient. Let your beard grow for the first few days. You do not need to take any step to facilitate its growth or to care for it. There is a possibility of some parts of your cheeks and neck, chin and around the lips to be a little itchy. You can trim your beard approaching with a ninety degree angle. This should smoothen the tips and make your beard less sharp. Do not cut down your beard undoing the growth it has attained in seven days.

Second Week to the Third Week of Beard Growth

Typically, most men would have stubbles in a fortnight to the third week. How voluminous this stubble would be will again depend on everything from genetics to age, hormones to the natural attributes of your facial hair. Do not trim or cut your beard or moustache at this stage. You may experience some scratchiness or itchiness. You can use grooming products to keep your beard clean and to ease the itchiness or other sensations. However, do not trim the beard or the moustache. Some men experience overgrowing moustaches and the long hair can interfere with eating and drinking, even speaking. You may be tempted to consider trimming these parts but do not. You would have to go through the same phase again if you want to grow a full beard over many months.

Fourth Week to the Sixth Week of Beard Growth

You should have a much fuller beard during this phase. You will experience less itchiness. Many men do not feel any itchiness in these weeks. However, the beard and moustache would not look very pleasant at this stage. There may be many strands that would grow erratically. All the hair may not look uniform. Some would be longer, some parts may be more voluminous and there could be some variations in texture too. You may not look your best at this stage.

Seventh Week to the Ninth Week of Beard Growth

By the time you get to the third month, you would have a fully grown beard that is capable of growing further. You should have a beard that measures well over an inch. Some people will have hair measuring over two inches by this stage. Hereon, you should trim your beard and moustache but only slightly once every fortnight. You may also trim just once a month.

Second Quarter of Beard Growth

The second quarter or the period from the fourth month to the sixth month would be a little challenging. Your beard would be quite long but it would interfere with many normal tasks. You may need a straw. You may have to continuously use some wax or other styling product to keep your moustaches apart. You will find your beard scattered when you wake up. Do not cut your beard and avoid trimming substantial chunks.

Third Quarter of Beard Growth

This is the slowest of all beard growth phases. There may not be ay growth at all. Your beard and moustache would truly remain as they are in terms of length but texture may vary. You may also have dandruff. You would have some hair fall too. You would need to brush your beard and moustache. You must oil your facial hair. Use antidandruff shampoo if needed. Condition your beard and moustache if they are dry. Do not use conditioner if you have oily facial hair.

Completing a Year of Beard Growth

Your beard may be of the same length by the end of the first year as it was at the tenth or eleventh month. You may consider trimming it a bit but that is not a necessity. You should be able to sport a manageable grand beard and moustache. Prioritize grooming at this stage.
