Nissans are great cars, no doubt about it. Not only do they look great, they are practical and reliable, and priced very well compared to other comparable brands. And still yet, they handle like beasts on the road. It’s going to be hard to read or even write this whole article without going down to pick one up right now at the appropriate establishment.
Both of these cars being high-performance sports cars, they are actually really similar, so the choice is going to be difficult. Here are a few points of fact to help make that decision a little easier:
In this category, the GTR is a clear winner. Running both cars stock against each other, the GTR already has a significant advantage in performance. The quarter mile clocks in almost a full two seconds ahead of the 370Z, and it’s 0 to 60 is a full second and a half ahead. And with aftermarket parts, the difference becomes even more telling. The GTR is easily capable of adding a whopping 340hp average to its performance with the right mods. Of course, this is a $25,000 endeavor so it’s not something to be taken lightly.
This is more of a grey area, because you have to take into account that different years of each model have different strengths and weaknesses. In the end, though, we will have to go with the 370Z as being more reliable, just simply because the GTR does have some minor transmission-related issues with earlier models, that is to say before 2009. If you are not planning on going that far back in time, neither car should really give you any problems of any sort, providing of course that it was properly taken care of during its previous life/lives.
In this category, the 370Z wins hands down, without any tiny shadow of a doubt. Comparing apples with apples, i.e. year and mileage very close, the GTR will tend to cost you almost double what the 370Z does. And if you go for aftermarket mods, it will cost you more than twice what it would on a GTR to get maximum performance out of the car, as opposed to the 370Z. Granted, the flip side of this argument has already been mentioned in this article; the GTR will be a much faster car and handle much better at that point.
It is worth noting, however, that you can buy a 370Z and fit it out any way you want and still pay less than you would for a comparable GTR.
In the end, it’s all about deciding whether you really need to drive a real beast like the GTR, or if you like being more casual and saving the money to go with the 370Z, which is still a highly impressive machine. Either way you go, you will get a lot of enjoyment out of these cars over the years.
