This week, country crooner Mitch Rossell joins us as our Gentleman of the Week. The Tennessee native boasts an impressive resume, touring with Garth Brooks on the Garth Brooks World Tour, taking to the stage with only an acoustic guitar and twangy vocals. Rossell’s latest project, “2020,” a unifying song that faces the struggles of the challenging year while keeping a positive outlook on what’s to come. The single hit No. 1 on the iTunes Country Chart upon release has since garnered attention from fans and critics alike. Learn more about Mitch below.
Rossell is a Family Man
After losing his father at an early age, Rossell made a vow to him that he would learn how to play the guitar, as his father had during the singer/ songwriter’s childhood. “I decided right before I left for college that I was going somewhere six hours from home, I didn’t know a single person, and I thought, ‘Hey, this would be a great time for me to learn guitar for Dad, and have something to do in the dorm room.’” Rossell told American Songwriter. Soon, the instrument engulfed Mitch’s life, and he soon realized he wanted to make music his career. By the time Mitch graduated, he knew he wanted to grow roots in Nashville to blossom his career.
Garth Brooks is His No. 1 Advocate
After hearing Mitch’s music, Brooks became an advocate for Mitch, saying, “Mitch Rossell has one of those voices that spins your head around the second you hear it, but that is only the beginning. Once he has your attention, get ready for some of the best lyrics and melodies you have ever heard.” Since, Mitch has had the opportunity to write and perform with the country legend and has even penned singles for Garth, including “Ask Me How I Know,” which topped the Billboard Country Airplay Chart, earning Mitch his first No. 1 as a songwriter. Following the successful single, Mitch also co-wrote “Dive Bar,” which wound up becoming a duet for Brooks and Blake Shelton along with a Top 10 hit, “All Day Long,” performed by Brooks.
Rossell Spreads Hope & Love in Latest Single, “2020”
Mitch set the negativity of 2020 aside and focused on the endless possibilities that the future holds in the latest single, “2020.” Rossell reflects on the year, saying, “I think most of us are just tired of the hate, shaming, name calling, and the extreme labels that are put on people based on their political preference. It’s fine to disagree. In fact, it’s a good thing, but it’s just gotten a bit out of hand in my humble opinion. You can wholeheartedly disagree with someone while still showing them respect as a human being. I hope we can find our way back to that place.”
Mitch Offers Advice to Aspiring Artists
The talented East Tennessee native has had the opportunity to work with some of the industry’s most well-respected figures. Mitch offers advice to aspiring artists, saying, “[It] sounds simple, but just be yourself. There’s only one you, make sure you take advantage of that.” Mitch reminisces on the trends in the genre when he first began and emphasized that although it was tempting to follow trends and sounds that other artists were doing, he ultimately stayed true to himself to uncover his success.
