Many men aspire to be the best they can be when it comes to most endeavours. Men often become set and reach goals to become skilled mechanics, successful CEOs and even world-class chefs.

When it comes to life, however, this can be a different story. While it is true that we all share the biggest room in the world – room for improvement – even the most successful men struggle with relationships outside their work; sometimes inside as well.

The word “gentleman” has acquired many definitions since that which was commonly used with our ancestors. You were considered a gentleman if you were wealthy, smoked cigars, and drank whiskey. Nowadays, you’re a gentleman if you are courteous and hold to a sense of chivalry, such as opening doors for ladies, or behaving yourself on a date.

All the same, we will speak of becoming the best aspiring gentleman in the context of becoming a better self, something every man – and woman – should aspire to.

In this article, we will cover the following 3 areas to become the best aspiring gentleman possible:

  1. Mindset
  2. Body
  3. Inner Person

Mindset

When we talk about mindset, we are talking about more than your IQ, and we are certainly talking about more than your knowledge of a subject at any level.

It has more to do with your general approach to life, whether it’s goals or plans or anything else. Anyone can write a list of goals. Anyone can produce a basic plan on how they plan to get there.

However, the majority of people who believe in goal-setting and goal-getting often overlook one thing: their mindset. In other words, they really don’t believe deep enough that they can achieve what they are after.

Of course, believing in something without a plan, or more importantly, without diligent effort to work in harmony with that belief and plan, is not going to get you to your goal.

For example, if you need to lose 30 pounds, do you think you will lose it only by believing that you will be 30 pounds lighter in such-and-such time, without exercising at all?

The answer is obvious. It’s not going to happen that way. However, this does not minimize the importance of believing strongly that you can make it happen – with a good plan and effort.

This, of course, is easier said than done. Some people think they need some assistance, and there’s nothing unmanly about that. Some men have had success with an organization called The Odissean Experience.

More than a life coach program, they define their organization as “An Exclusive Virtual Lifestyle and Wellness Club.

Mahatma Gandhi famously said, “It is health that is real wealth, not pieces of gold or silver.” In addition to a strong mindset, a healthy body will help you to live better and will help you’re your mind sharp.

This underscores the idea that it’s about more than just fitness goals. Make no mistake – fitness goals have their place, but there is much more to improving your body than just having regular workouts, even intense ones.

In Ancient Greece, their training facilities are what we today call “gyms”. Young ones were trained both physically and intellectually.

Combine this with a focus on good nutrition, and then you have a holistic approach to a healthy body.

Here too, is where some men seek out assistance. The Odissean Residence, a product of The Odissean Experience, has helped many men and women go beyond their current self and become a better one through the holistic approach previously described.

Inner Person

The word “soul” could have been used here, but opinions differ as to the meaning of soul, so we chose a more direct phrase – inner person.

The inner person is essentially who you are inside. The way you approach challenges, conquer fears – how you deal with life as it comes in the pursuit of your better self – reveals a lot about your inner person.

Let’s take a look at your responses to adversity, for example. When you encounter an obstacle on the way to your goals, how do you respond? Ask yourself these questions:

Do I calmly look at the problem and get to work on finding a way to get past the obstacle?

Do I temporarily panic, but then get myself back on track to find a solution?

Do I panic completely, mentally shut down or perform some aggressive or extreme action to express my displeasure in the setback?

Do I give up without a fight?

These are just a few possible reactions that could occur. However, that is just a small piece of the puzzle.

How you embrace culture – whether your local one or others – also indicates who you are on the inside. It can be reflected in the books you read, the movies you watch, whether or not you attend art galleries, just to name a few.

What if you could become part of an organization that nurtures these things, completing the holistic approach to a healthy body, mind and inner person? The Odissean Experience is a place where many men and women just like you have found fulfilment in their journeys. They were able to become their better self.
