A Gentleman’s Guide to a Stag Do in Marbella

Known as the playground for the rich and famous, Marbella is one of Europe’s most-loved destinations. Year-round sun matched with one of the world’s best nightlife, Marbella is the ultimate destination for a stag do. Here are our top tips for making yours so memorable your mates will be talking about it for years:

Getting There

To get to Marbella, you’ll need to get a flight to the nearest airport – Malaga. Use websites like Skyscanner to find the best deals and do not rely on last-minute deals; with a large group, you’ll need to get organized and book far in advance else you risk flying separately. Marbella has at least 300 days of sunshine a year, so try and plan your stag do outside of July/August time when flights will be pricey.

Once you get to Malaga, it’s around an hour’s trip to get to Marbella. There are lots of buses from the airport. Or, you can hire a minibus or cab to get you to your accommodation. Booking your transfers in advance will save hassle at the airport, and you’ll be greeted at the airport like stellar gentlemen.

Accommodation

Hotels are the go-to choice of accommodation for most holidays but think twice before arranging one for a stag party. Not only is it difficult to book large groups into hotels, but some also are not stag/group-friendly – not everyone will be delighted with the drunken disorderly behavior that may or may not occur, so be sure to check this to avoid getting chucked out.

Hostels are a great option for keeping yourselves on a budget, and there are plenty in Marbella. Whilst they are much cheaper than hotels, they get booked up fast in the summer so be sure to book far in advance – especially for large groups.

For something more private and luxurious, villas that accommodate large groups can often work out more affordable than hotels. Often catering to all ages, as well as being easier to organize everyone, the stag will surely be impressed with a swanky villa. Again, be sure to ask upfront whether stag groups are accepted – better to know beforehand than get turned away when you pick up the keys.

What to Do

A stag do in Marbella wouldn’t be the same without some group activities, and the Spanish resort has something for everyone.

For a touch of Vegas, Casino Marbella has various card games on offer as well as slot machines. There is also the occasional tournament if you fancy a serious flutter.

If you’re a fan of the outdoors, there are various off-road driving activities including quad biking, 4×4 jeep safaris, and go-karting. For something a bit more extreme, try a canyoning tour. This extreme water sport combines swimming, climbing, abseiling, and jumping as you navigate through rivers, waterfalls, canyons, and gorges. It’s the perfect team-building exercise and can be ideal for fellow stags to get to know each other.

Or, if you prefer more relaxing sports, Spain is famous for its luxurious golf courses and Marbella is no exception. You could book yourself in for a lesson with a professional or have a tournament between your stags – either way there’s something to keep everyone happy.

Nightlife

Of course, one of the main reasons for Marbella becoming such a popular stag destination is due to its exceptional nightlife – a nightlife that is fast becoming the best in Europe.

In the summer, expect beaches like Nikki Beach, which is a luxury private beach during the day, to host some epic beach parties at night.

Puerto Banús is the hotspot for nightlife and celebrities; the marina is full of luxury yachts, bars, and clubs. O’Grady’s is an Irish-themed pub that is particularly popular with tourists and locals alike. It has a laidback atmosphere, which is perfect for a stag do. Pangea is by far the best club in the area, with superb events, flaming bottles, and VIP service.

Tips

The best piece of advice when it comes to organizing any stag do – in Marbella or elsewhere – is to get everything booked early. Not only will you get the best prices, but you’ll also get the best chance of everyone being together, especially on things like flights.

Be sure to note down your accommodation address so you don’t find yourself lost and unable to get back at the end of the night.

Booking through a company that organizes stags can actually be cheaper than booking everything yourself – as well as being far less stressful. These companies know which places are stag-friendly and usually take deposits and let you pay off balances too, so you’re not stuck with massive bill months in advance.
