Hot Streetwear Trends That Aren’t Going Anywhere

If you don’t know by now, men’s streetwear fashion is more prevalent than ever.  Leaking into mainstream audiences, yet maintaining a representation of rebellious urban youth, streetwear is everywhere, from Instagram to catwalks, editorials to your very own closet.

While streetwear is largely unique and individualized from person to person, some key trends have hit the streetwear scene making it so you can both stand out and claim to be a part of a larger global movement.

Take a look at some of the hottest things in streetwear design that have no intention of fading out anytime soon.

1. Athluxury

As a staple of streetwear fashion, the term “athluxury” refers to being both athletic and comfortable, while still being luxurious and fashionable.  With greats such as Tory Burch, Moschino, and Calvin Klein incorporating athluxury into their newest collections, this is the trend to get in on.

In fact, Vogue predicted back in December of 2016 that athleisure, or “elegant, country-club ready athletic apparel”, would rule in 2017. And boy were they right.

2. Denim + Embroidery

We all saw denim and patches make waves in 2016.  And then, when we thought it couldn’t get any better, it did.

Embroidered denim is streetwear’s way of taking casual comfort and making it cool.  With a 60’s inspired feel, complete with embellishments and intricate design – usually of the floral or animal variety – this popular style has been taken up by luxury brands such as Gucci.

3. Supersized Everything

With a 90’s grunge approach, this year’s streetwear fashion comes packed with oversized everything; it’s no longer just oversized flannels.  Lengths have been extended, more fabric has been added, and silhouettes look larger than life.

4. Wide Leg Trousers

Again, streetwear has placed a large focus on bigger than life silhouettes.  As a result, you can say goodbye to trendy skinny jeans and say hello to the classic wide leg pant.

Pair them with a button-down shirt for the office, or add a silk blouse for an evening out.  Embrace the high or low waist.  Make sure they are tailored for a perfect fit.  Follow that recipe and you will fit right in with beautiful women of the past who had enough elegance to pull this re-emerging style off – Katharine Hepburn and Jackie O.

5. Form and Function

Some of the most basic elements making up popular streetwear fashion are perfect form and extreme function.  Being able to transition from the gym to work to a dinner out with friends, your streetwear wardrobe can do it all – and do it well.

Bomber jackets, puffer jackets, and parkas are on the “what to watch” list come this winter season.  Adding a streetwear flair to any outfit, these key pieces will define you as one of the rebellious types that wants to be a part of the in crowd too.
