One of the things I like the most about being a ‘digital nomad’ as we traveling freelancers are often known is that I have the time to spend with my family. Family for me is my three nieces and nephew, my three sisters’ children who are eighteen months and three years old respective. One of the key parts of taking them out for the day is having the right car seats for them and this is how I came across the Diono Radian rXT Convertible+Booster Car Seat for $299.99 generously provided to me for review purposes. Having been provided with one of these car seats to try out, here’s my review of what I thought.
About the Diono Radian rXT Convertible+Booster Car Seat
Okay, let’s start with the facts and figures because I know a lot of people like to hear these first. The Diono Radian rXT Convertible+Booster Car Seat uses a full steel frame and has aluminum reinforcement to give the highest level of safety for the kids in the seats. It is rear facing for children from 5 to 45lbs and then forward facing for children from 20lbs to 80 lbs. It also has a five-point harness that then allows the system to be converted into a booster and works for children right up until 120lbs.
The Diono Radian rXT Convertible+Booster Car Seat cushions offer infant body support and there is memory foam to extend the comfort level. The seat also has energy-absorbing EPS foam and side impact protection to add another level of safety. The special Safe Stop harness is also energy absorbing. The whole seat system is highly adjustable to suit the children’s needs with 12 headrest positions, five shoulder position and three buckle positions.
Special features of the Diono Radian rXT Convertible+Booster Car Seat
As well as the big safety features and ultra adjustable nature of the Diono Radian rXT Convertible+Booster Car Seat, there are also a number of special features that were impressive. For example, the low sitting profile means it is easy for the child to climb into the seat and, with my nephew, that little bit of independence is very important.
The Diono Radian rXT Convertible+Booster Car Seat also features expandable sides and a long seat bottom that means their legs are supported, ideal for longer journeys. There are angled cup holders so that drinks are within easy reach of little hands and are kept upright to lessen the chance that the child ends up wearing the drink, rather than drinking it.
My opinion of the Diono Radian rXT Convertible+Booster Car Seat
So that’s some of the technical side of the review of the Diono Radian rXT Convertible+Booster Car Seat, now on to my own experiences.
Due to the shape of the seat, you can fit three in a row in many cars so this is ideal if one of the children’s friends want to come along on a trip. I also found that the seat folded flat very easily so when I am travelling without the children, it can be stored in the boot or even left at home. The addition of the rear-facing base for my niece meant that you can easily recline the seat and there is no need for rolled towels or other aids.
To summarize, I am very impressed with these car seats. They are sturdy and well made with a host of adjustments you can use to ensure each child is completely comfortable. While car seats are always a little tricky to use until you master them, I found it didn’t take me long to operate this one like a pro. And the foldaway ability of the seat makes for easy storage when not in use.
I did recommend to my sister that she should definitely try them for her own car. The list of celebrity dads who are using these show that I’m not alone in being impressed by them – Diono fans include Orlando Bloom, Mark Deklin and Sean McDermott as well as Justin Baldoni from Jane the Virgin. In fact, she is going to get one for her husband for Father’s Day – he is always cursing the one that they have so will make an excellent present for him and for the kids!
